Opening of the Exhibition “The Cultural Heritage of Kočani and the Kočani Region through Photographs”

Today, at 12 o’clock, in the premises of the “Iskra” Library in Kočani, the exhibition “The Cultural Heritage of Kočani and the Kočani Region through Photographs” will be opened.

The main idea behind the preparation of the exhibition is to present the continuous life in this area, stretching back almost 9,000 years, supported by a selection of cultural heritage items shown through photographs.

The concept of the exhibition, as well as the selection of material, was developed by Ilinka Atanasova. Most of the photographs are by Aleksandar Gorgiev and Ljubinka Ajtovska, while older photographs by Stefan Atanasov were also used.

In the selection presented, the emphasis—with few exceptions—has been placed on movable material exhibited in the Ethno House in Kočani, within its two permanent displays: archaeological and ethnological, which are continuously enriched with new material.

Through the presentation of around a hundred objects and artifacts, an attempt has been made to provide at least a partial insight into the cultural richness of this region and to visualize the results of more than three decades of research related to the Kočani area. To visually illustrate and create a broader picture of the region, the photographs follow a chronological sequence, highlighting features of specific cultural periods.

This chronological overview begins by entering through the gates of the urban core of Kočani from the first half of the 20th century, taking us all the way back to the Neolithic period.

This photographic journey into the cultural past of Kočani concludes with several photographs of essential raw materials from the immediate surroundings, used from the Neolithic period up to the present day.

The exhibition will remain open to visitors until November 18.
